Siguro naman alam n’yo na by now na buwan-buwan kaming nagkikita nina Bebi, Kate at Isa to keep the flames of friendship alive (yown). For March, Ice, the designated planner, suggested a beach outing. Tapos sama na ang Inquirer people, other college friends and lovers para mas masaya.
Nanganib akong hindi makasama dahil magtatapos na ang semestre, gabundok na ang school requirements. Pero siyet hindi ko mapapatawad ang aking sarili kapag ipinagpalit ko ang beach sa term papers at report. So ayun, sumama kami ni Ginoong Ronas.

Let me tell you about the day Paolo and I first met
It was Tuesday, futsal night. Upon arriving at club sixfifty in Libis, I was introduced to newbie Paolo (he was new to the group, not to the game), high school classmate of not-so-newbie Alex, brother of our former officemate Mela *whew*
Paolo flashed an I’m-uber-sociable-like-whoa smile and said hello. Alas, I was not as friendly. I just raised my eyebrows in acknowledgment then walked away. Hehe, suplada.
So yun na, we started playing, Paolo and I in different teams. When I saw that he was a threat (I later learned that he played soccer in Claret), I decided to guard him. Kaso he was too quick and agile for me, parang kiti-kiti! Lagi niya akong nalalagpasan tapos makaka-goal siya (puwede akong humirit ng “he tore down my defenses,” but it’d be TOO easy ). Siyempre napipikon na ako kasi nakakarami na siya, so sabi ko sa kanya, “I hate you.” Hahaha.
Aba’y sinong mag-aakalang pagkalipas ng isang taon e naga-aylabyu-han na kami… Sorry sorry di ko napigilang ihirit hehe.
Happy “anniversary” AND fifth monthsary, Teddy! I love you! Yiheee…
I came across this image at a Livejournal community two years ago, and have never forgotten about it.
The last time I tried to remember how Mama’s voice sounded, I was quite successful. But now, all I can remember is that it was a high-pitched voice that always sounded feisty.
It saddens me that I am bound to lose more and more memories of Mama — how she ate, how she laughed, the look on her face that told me I was in for some heavy spanking, the way she said my name, her scent.
But one memory I try my hardest to hold on to. I was nine years old and we had just finished supper. We were in the master bedroom, just the two of us, Mama sitting “Indian style” on the bed with my head on her legs. She was cleaning my ear with a Q-tip as I was quietly absorbing the details of her blue daster, with its endless columns of little flowers, and the golden fish pendant of her necklace. Only the steady hum of the air conditioner could be heard. There was no small talk, no lambingan, no sharing of advice, no tearful confessions, but that was the moment when I most strongly felt the bond we had as mother and daughter.
Times like this when she feels so far away, the memory of that night helps.
I miss you so much, Mama. Happy 59th birthday. I love you, and hope I am making you proud.
